Buyers' Beware

July 21,  2004

There’s an age old saying in this country that places the blame for defective merchandise upon the buyer. Buying a candidate for any office, by voting for him, ought to be governed by the same time-tested rules. In this theoretical season: theoretical because it is not an absolute certainty that there will be a November election—anyone planning to vote needs to remember the cautions.

What is this about: This election is about getting the facts straight, and remembering who did what to whom and why. One difficulty is that the US media is doing everything it can to obscure the truth, and to cloud the issues by rearranging if not completely omitting the facts.

The other major difficulty in America is that we tend to see politics as entertainment and not as the struggle for leadership that it actually is. American’s since the late 1980’s have tended to see themselves as consumers rather than citizens. Since so few now understand the laws, or know what their rights under the constitution really are, maybe if the elections were looked at as a year-end marketing campaign—then perhaps more people might take a real interest in the condition of the goods that are being offered for sale at this time.

Despite all the difficulties, it is still up to each person to decide for themselves what is true and what is not: hence the caution—Buyer BEWARE!

American’s take pride in being smart shoppers, knowing exactly what they’re getting for the best possible price. So why have so many chosen to ignore the facts in this case? Most people wouldn’t buy a car if they knew that it had been totaled in a tragic accident that bent the frame, and completely destroyed the shape of the vehicle. Such a vehicle would be seen as a total loss, and definitely not worth very much. Yet Bush, as a presidential candidate, has the exact same failings as the totaled car. His frame has been bent, more than once, his shape borders on psychotic, and his future holds only more disaster for anyone who might want to see him remain on the scene.

Bush believes that God speaks to him; if he were not the president he would be taken in for psychiatric evaluation. The fact that he has not yet been examined is insane. Cheney-Bush started two wars within four years, and that’s a first for any presidential duo.

Why this immense disconnect? How can supposedly sharp people, continue to ignore what he and his have done, in the names of every American consumer? No one would knowingly buy a house whose foundation was riddled with termite damage, whose walls were filled with dry rot, and whose roof was full of holes. Yet this candidate is riddled with obscenities that are much more serious. He knows nothing about the laws of this country, yet believes that this matters not, because he is convinced that he is the law and can do whatever he wants—all laws and powers to the contrary be damned.

This man possesses not one shred of human compassion or decency. He sneers at human misery and laughs at public manners. He’s a personal coward who began his term by running away from demonstrators when he tried to drive to the White House on his first day as president. He ran away on 911, and he now wants to run away from Election Day in November of 2004. Yet despite all this, he demands that he be seen by the world as a macho man, a tough guy ready to take on all comers.

Yet Bush is terrified of any questions from those he supposedly governs. "W" runs from demonstrations and has anyone who dares to disagree with him, locked up. His policies are not to be questioned by reporters, by others in government, or by the people that he supposedly represents. Technically Bush has nothing to fear, because of the way he was able to obtain the office in the first place.

It should be remembered, that the US Supreme Court appointed him, and he got away with that. No congressional challenge, no public outcry, and the courts were certainly accommodating – so what has he to fear? Nothing!

Now, Bush and his thugs have licensed torture, rape, and the plundering of other nations, for private profit, while seeking to expand his new war-making policies to every corner of the world. He and his have stonewalled all attempts to investigate the actions of this administration, from 9-11 to Energy Policy, and the sheer number of corrupt business transactions from Wall Street to Main Street is horrendous, yet still he stumbles on.

He has used and abused the Armed Forces to enforce his dictates, while slashing their pay and benefits. To cover the facts, he’s classified the number of the injured, the maimed, and the dead among our own forces making even the return of their bodies a national secret. In 2005 he has a plan to draft everyone up to the age of 38, no exemptions, no deferments: these bodies are needed for his perpetual war machine. Of course that will destroy the private sector, careers and jobs will evaporate: However, all citizens will need to do their duty, unlike those who will be sending them into harm’s way: because we are at war now, and we shall be forever at war if Bush stays in office.

America loves with the idea of winners. But what this administration has done during their stewardship has been negative for 90% of the people that live here. The other ten percent have never been better off so they talk about recovery. But for working people this kind of intense political and moral polarization has, in world history at least, has usually led to rebellion. So how is this ‘smart’ or even clever leadership? Anyone who has lived through all the hell of the first term of Bush Junior, cannot consciously say that the world is safer or better off in any way – so why would anyone "buy" this character or give this crowd another shot at destroying not only the nation but the planet?

If America is only interested in business and commerce, then even those people have to see that the current occupants of the White House have not been good for anyone in business who is not a corporation or a senior executive. How does it make any sense to completely empty the treasury, and then dive headlong into unfathomable debt, not to meet any of the obligations that government has sworn to maintain; but simply to give numerous tax cuts to the wealthy? That has to be Voodoo Economics, at the very least.

This nation has never been poorer, never had a worse standing in the global community of nations. Now Bush wants to enshrine all that he has done, by canceling the election and proclaiming himself Dictator for Life. Not that he has said that exactly, it’s just what will happen if he is allowed to cancel elections from some fear of the boogey men that he and his, have created.

As some indication of the kind of product that Bush is offering to the American consumer, one might want to look at his earlier life (a complete and utter failure), and at his career, which has not been noble in any sense of that term. The number of lies and purposeful deceptions that have come from this White House and it’s subordinate agencies, staggers the rational mind of most of those who have come to realize the truth. With that kind of baggage in mind: make an assessment about how qualified this person or his party really are, to deliver on anything that he has promised to any electorate—ever.

Remembering that number-oneness is very important to a great many Americans, how can so many actually vote for someone so substandard, so criminal and despicable as this overly used and extremely flawed person truly is? Is it that having voted for him before, many fear the truth of what they’ve been partially responsible for creating? Or is it that Bush is to many, just a good-ole boy a tough guy who "tells it like it is?"

If this disaster isn’t stopped completely in its tracks, then there won’t be a country to fight over any more, which means that there won’t be any more toys to worry about buying at really great prices. Nor will there be any of the necessary jobs to keep this farce alive. So consumers, since the decided ones seem to be deadlocked over this particular entry in the sweepstakes for our very lives - I guess it’s up to you. How bout it? Will you be buying damaged goods or will you actually begin to make demands about the quality of what’s about to be offered—for your consideration?

Once was bad enough, but how can anyone now justify buying such a pile of damaged goods?
