now we're even going backward over
there as well.
In country after country the lid is
in the process of 'coming off' the checks and balances that have kept all
our darker dreams from roaming through the world at will. In North Korea,
they continue to raise the stakes, continue to push for recognition - all
they're demanding at this point is dialogue. Yet the personal ire of Bush
will not allow him to even open talks with so formidable a potential foe, as
North Korea. http://64.176.94.191/article1226.htm
This is a land where the people are
starving now, where the government builds weapons and sells them to all
those on our lists of outlaw nations - yet we will not even talk to them,
because "we're too busy with Iraq." North Korea is doing, and has
done; all that Saddam has been accused of and much more. The people there
are enslaved and have been for years. As a nation state North Korea has
remained outside the family of nations for over fifty years. Yet even this
is not a reason for the mighty USA to even pause or to have some
conversations on the subject; just to speak with their leaders who say they
only want to talk? Is this a sane response from the Bush administration?
On February 1st there was a comment
from an Israeli professor and military historian in defense of Israeli
policies that seek to solve the Palestinian question by "collective
deportation." Unfortunately the Professor began his remarks this way:
"
Israel could avenge the holocaust
by annihilating millions of Germans and other Europeans Professor Martin Van
Crevel said Israel had the capability of hitting most European capitals with
nuclear weapons.
"We possess several hundred
atomic warheads and rockets and can launch them at targets in all
directions, perhaps even at Rome. Most European capitals are targets of our
air force."
Creveld argued that Israel wouldn't
care much about becoming a rouge state.
"Our armed forces are not the
thirtieth strongest in the world, but rather the second or third. We have
the capability to take the world down with us. And I can assure you that
that this will happen before Israel goes under."
This is just another example of
what might begin to happen fully, once we begin our little war game in the
Middle East. And of course with each new attack upon global civility, human
rights and a decent respect for the laws of other nations - the chances of
total war increase. And barring that most extreme view, at the very least
what will happen to the US will begin to look a lot like the way the people
in Israel are forced to live today: http://www.prisonplanet.com/analysis_schelstrate_020603_israel.html
This is not a computer game, or a
Hollywood film - real people will fight and die on all sides. Human beings
will become fodder for acts of carnage and chaos that may not respond to any
attempts to put the obscenity of war back in its dark and forbidding place.
Global Acts of Aggression are not something that the United States of
America should be begging the planet to join in committing. If we were any
kind of civil nation at all - we should be begging the world NOT to
disregard the safeguards, which the Nuremberg tribunals tried to put in
place, just to keep our world at peace.
